I interview Bret Contreras on my site at www.empoweredathletes.com. He does a lot of work with glutes. Smart guy.
Please let me know what you guys think, thanks. |

Well I think your site is fine. I'm not sold on the glute blasters. I tried this with a couple of guys for 4 weeks and got mixed results. For some reason, the BS meter goes off when I hear his name. He might be legit...but the meter keeps going off. Anyone else try these? Getting 6 inches in 8 weeks is pretty impressive....if its true. As to your comment about him being a smart guy. Well...he's pretty good about talking out of his glute.
This is a recent quote from him: Contrary to what the sprinting gurus tell you, horizontal force development is the most important component to sprinting speed. I cannot even believe that some gurus who I look up too can actually believe that vertical force development is the most important component to sprinting speed. I’ll completely dispel this misconception in a future article and book, but for now just start trying them out and see if they transfer to your sprinting. I’ve gotten so much positive feedback from around the world regarding hip thrusts. Last edited by west58 : 01-26-2010 at 09:34 PM. |

Good comments. I think he is a smart guy because he is searching for his own answers instead of only taking what is already out there. Alex Vasquez made a great point on another forum about the interview that does emphasize enough the internal rotation function of the glute which enables athletes to utilize their big toe in extension. Stretching of the external rotators is important he said. I just posted an interview with Kelly B on the site. |

Not accepting the status quo and searching for new answers...thats good enough for me. If anything, he has opened up a new topic.
I can see where glutes and lower back are being challenged to get to what "lifters" would consider full bilateral hip extension. I don't know if it helps the vertical, but if one is using this for speed or acceleration, it might fall short. A regular hip extension machine gets the hip into a hyper-extension which challenges end range. The glute blasters don't come close to getting past neutral. |
